The Herzstein Foundation by means of its grant program continues the work of Albert and Ethel Herzstein, leaving their “footprints” by supporting charitable efforts that offer individuals opportunities for advancement through education and enrichment of the human spirit, and contribute to the quality of life in our society. “What impressed me was that the people who were operating these various nonprofits were doing so because they were charitable and good Americans…I am well-acquainted with hardships, and of being very considerate of your neighbor.” Albert Herzstein Introduction by the President The office of The Herzstein Foundation contains hundreds of reminders of a lifetime of hard work and philanthropy. Photos of friends and family members and dozens of awards hang on the walls and adorn the tables. These objects speak to the respect and high regard in which Mr. and Mrs. Herzstein were held. However, these effects will never express the values and concerns of Mr. and Mrs. Herzstein, nor will they present a thorough image of the individuals they were. I began working for Mr. Herzstein in 1985. At that time, he had been retired from Big Three for over 20 years. He believed in hard work, and had been a success in industry. As a retiree, he became just as successful with his real estate business. In the twelve years that I knew him, he proved to be a man who “walked the talk.” Mr. Herzstein was a keen negotiator, but he never took advantage of anyone in his business dealings. He was honest, forthright, and he would always tell you exactly what was on his mind.
